INTEGRATED FIELD STUDIES

What is an integrated field study?

An integrated field study is a multi-discipline approach to form a comprehensive understanding of an asset by accounting for the interconnection between reservoir performance and surface system operation.  The understanding of the total performance of an asset over time requires that the reservoir be characterized and connected to a hydraulic model of the surface system (wells, pipelines, and facilities).  The practical goal of such a study is to be able to increase the performance or value of an asset through the identification of optimization opportunities and/or the implementation of a field development plan.

What Neotec tools can be used for field studies?

Neotec’s integrated, reservoir-to-sales line software FORGAS has been used for over two and a half decades for gas and oil field deliverability modelling.  It seamlessly integrates a tank-type reservoir with wellbore and associated surface facilities to forecast field performance.  For more complex reservoirs requiring reservoir simulation, FORGAS also links dynamically with Schlumberger’s ECLIPSE and CMG’s GEM and IMEX.  Also, Neotec’s other software, WELLFLO and PIPEFLO, are regularly used in support of field studies.

What services does Neotec offer for field studies?

Neotec has a group of highly experienced professionals with a cross-functional skill set that incorporates expertise in reservoir simulation and multiphase flow modelling in wells and surface systems.  Neotec offers consulting services that are tailored to the client’s needs and budget constraints.  Neotec seeks to develop a close relationship with the client by involving them in all stages of the field study.

The format of a field study can vary depending on the needs of the client and the scope of the project.  Studies can be done in-house or off-site.  Some clients choose to have Neotec maintain and update their field models year after year.

Neotec’s goal in undertaking any field study is to enhance the value of the asset.
In particular, Neotec’s field study services include the following areas of expertise:

  • Reservoir Simulation (black oil, compositional, thermal)
  • Well Test Analysis
  • Conventional Reservoir Analysis and Engineering
  • Well and Pipeline Hydraulic Modelling

Where have Neotec’s products and/or services been used for field studies?

Neotec’s software and services have been engaged in a wide range of field studies, simple and complex, all over the world, including:

  • Ongoing maintenance of a gas-condensate gathering system in the Canadian foothills
  • Integrated surface and reservoir simulation models used to maintain injectivity levels for an acid gas disposal system
  • Offshore gas to power field model used to maintain a contract in the Middle East
  • Integrated FORGAS model for a 500+ well tight gas system used to determine the facility requirements for a multi-year infill drilling program
  • Offshore gas-condensate integrated FORGAS model in South East Asia used to predict condensate volume profiles and peak field deliverability
  • Evaluation of an enhanced oil recovery scheme using CO2, water and WAG (Water Alternating Gas)
  • Gas cycling for pressure maintenance and LPG recovery in India
  • Compressor optimization and de-bottlenecking studies for over 30 gas fields in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin
